One Mr. James Omale has alleged before Igando Customary Court, Lagos that his wife, Mrs. Yetunde Omale is adulterous and must confess before his family deity to prove her innocence.
The 41-year-old man, pleaded with the court not to dissolve their marriage as filed by the wife but to order the woman to follow him to his village to confess.
Omale stated that his wife left home about a month ago without his consent, only to come back and seek divorce in law court.
“In my own tradition where I come from, when a woman absconds from her matrimonial home, she is taken to the village shrine to confess if no other man had slept with her,” Omale stated.
He lamented how he sponsored Yetunde to get tertiary education and consequently lost his banking job in the process.
“She is an ingrate, now that she has obtained degree, she says I’m not fit again to be her husband. She cannot just come back after a month, unless she goes to my village,” Omale declared.
However, the wife Yetunde asked the court to dissolve the marriage, saying she is no more in love with the husband. She said that she would not swear to any shrine because she is a Christian.
She told the court that she did not involve in infidelity but that she left home to stay with her mother due to the bad attitude of her husband.
She said, “Omale always leave home without telling me his destination. He leaves me and my child to suffer that is why I packed to my parents.”
Calling on the court to dissolve the marriage, Yetunde vowed not to go back to her husband.
Meanwhile, the President of the court, Mr. Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to September 6 for judgment.
